Hello from Deltaville, Va. So why did we leave the quiet and serenity of the Severn River for the bustling city life of Deltaville (pop 1000) but home to over 3000 boats......after 2.5 days in the river, raining daily, the crew was threatening mutiny if I did not get her paws on a dock before sundown.

So we cranked up the iron genny and motored on a windless, flat Chesapeake Bay to Deltaville for fuel and a space at the dock for the night. Once we were fueled and had secured the boat Ruby jumped on the dock, scratched to her little hearts content and just sat there. I headed up the dock to the office and along the way introduced myself to a local sailor, named Bill, who was about to climb aboard another Island Packet 31. Turns out he had just bought the boat, it is a 1986 model like mine, and was a bit excited to find out I was the one and only Capt Jon, founder of the Island Packet 31 Owners Assoc. He said he had found the IP31 website (www.ip31ownersassoc.homestead.com) that I maintain and had a million ?. Anyway I spent the better part of an hour answering his questions ended up with a trip to West Marine, an invite to dinner (at a local seafood restaurant, appropriately named the galley) and a new toothbrush. He is a dentist and I guess most dentists carry around tooth brushes in their pockets. He called his wife to let her know he was taking me to dinner (not her) and I'm sure she was saying, "who" and probably didn't share his enthusiasm. He did have to promised to be at her mothers on time. After a dinner of seafood cakes and for me a cold MGD, we headed back to the marina where Bill and I said our goodbyes and  I returned to Papillon to find Ruby patiently waiting on the dock.  Bill headed to his in-laws, I gave Ruby a pat on the head and said, life is good.

So here we sit this morning, hot coffee, Buffett singing "Biloxi" playing in the background and contemplating the day ahead. Looking at Ruby curled up on her rug over in the corner of the main cabin maybe we won't do much of anything.
