As Willie use to sing, "On the road again". We celebrated my Dad's 90th birthday yesterday, three days early, since I was leaving today.

We departed Jacksonville early this morning with just enough time to get to St. Augustine before dark if everything goes all right. We did not make it. We spent the last week, 27 miles down the St.Johns River in Orange Park, where my brother lives. We had to go back out the St Johns River 27 miles and pass through the Main Street bridge in downtown Jacksonville, to get out of town, figuratively speaking. The bridge worked fine just before I got there but when he tried to raise it to let me pass it would not go up. I knew we were in trouble when the bridge tender suggested I go over to the dock and tie up. Anyway 45 minutes later he was finally able to get the dang thing up. With the delay we could not make St. Augustine by dark so I decided to pull off behind Pine Island, just north of St.Augustine and anchor for the night. When we got here about 5 pm the place was about full up. There were already 5 boats in the anchorage. Now that means there are at least 5 other boats trying to escape the cold just like us.

My furry friend spend her day inside where it was warm. I left the heater on all day for her. That should get me an "atta boy" with the animal rights folks. Of course that also meant the boat was nice and warm when I went below for the evening.
